What Can I Do To Protect Myself?

Golf cart theft is on rise in some communities here in SWFL. We have been receiving more calls asking what measures people can take to prevent theft from happening to them or a family member who relies on their cart for transportation within a community.

Battery Corrosion: Don't let this happen to your cart

Basic maintenance of lead-acid batteries

Over-watering lead acid batteries leads to corrosion build-up and can cause damage to your cart's frame. This picture exemplifies the effect over-watering for a long time has on a cart.

Taking care of lead-acid batteries is pretty simple, and we have some helpful tips for keeping your batteries in good shape. Remember to fully charge your batteries before watering. It is important to use distilled water to fill your batteries. Ensure the plates are covered, and do not add too much water. Keep the tops of your batteries clean by wetting the tops of the batteries with water, then sprinkling them with baking soda. Baking soda acts as a neutralizer to the battery acid. After about an hour, you can hose this mixture off.

The corrosion on the cart above had to be removed, adding labor to the cost of replacing the batteries. The severity of the corrosion build-up, which damaged the frame, required parts to be replaced, too. This was an avoidable repair bill.
