Thinking of moving to Florida for a more active lifestyle? Check out these tips from our team at Hole In One Golf Carts on what you should consider before taking the plunge.

Are you thinking of moving to Florida? The Sunshine State is an ideal destination if you’re looking to live a more active lifestyle. There are plenty of amenities and opportunities available that cater to those who enjoy year-round outdoor activities, sports, and fitness. Many people have found that a great way to get to those activities is with a golf cart. Let’s dive into what you should consider when planning your move to the Sunshine State.

Rise in Popularity of Sports & Activities in Florida

Sports and activities such as golf, tennis, fishing, cycling, and sailing have always been popular in Florida. In recent years, however, many other activities have seen a rise in popularity – Pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, yoga classes are being offered at several public parks around the state, and kayaking clubs are popping up everywhere. Plus, with so much coastline - there's no shortage of places for swimming. But who needs a golf cart to enjoy any of these activities you ask? Picture yourself after an afternoon of pickleball, you’re hot and sweaty, ready for a shower. Who wants to jump in a hot car? Or sit on the leather seats in your wet swim suit? You’re here to enjoy a year-round outdoor lifestyle, make the most of it!

Key Considerations When Choosing a Community for An Active Lifestyle in Florida

It’s important to consider all factors when choosing where to move if you’re looking for an active lifestyle in Florida – from amenities such as golf courses or tennis courts to community events like festivals or concerts, it’s important that they fit your needs, and wants. For example, if you are a serious golfer, it may make sense to own your golf cart rather than pay to rent a golf cart at the course a few times a week. Over time owning the golf cart may make fiscal sense for you depending on how much you golf. Some communities allow residents to own their carts and use them on the course, while others do not. If you’re planning the move with a partner or your family, consider the distance to schools or how long of a commute either of you is willing to make. After all, spending more time in the car is not how you want to enjoy your new lifestyle right?

Living in an Age-Restricted Community vs. General Community with a Golf Cart

Age-restricted communities can be great choices for retirees looking for an active lifestyle in Florida as they often offer great amenities that include well-maintained facilities and golf courses. Many 55+ communities have social events, activities, dining options, and even concerts available to residents. Depending on the type of community, many residents choose an electric golf cart as their mode of transportation for its versatility, low cost, and ease of use. If you are looking to downsize your life, trading in your car for an electric golf cart may be a good option for you, especially if your chosen community has all the amenities and activities you want.

However, these age-restricted communities may not be the best choice for people who want a more varied social lifestyle since only residents of certain ages are permitted within these communities and there may be more restrictions /rules for residents to follow. There may be restrictions on the colors and makes of golf carts that must be followed, or your golf cart may have to be an LSV (a low-speed vehicle that is titled, has a license plate, and is insured).

General communities on the other hand usually come with better access to events, greater social opportunities (such as local festivals), and a wider range of facilities (such as gyms). In many of these types of communities, you will find people using golf carts to run to the grocery store, take children to the bus stop, or for shopping and dining out.

Finally, research the type of climate you will experience each season. That way, you'll know what types of seasonal activities are available when planning your active lifestyle and if your golf cart needs additional accessories such as rain curtains, a club protector, or even a trailer hitch added to help carry your equipment to your activities.
